With a strong industrial base to support it, L.A. County is home to a wide range of professional, scientific, and technical service organizations.

Ranging from the proverbial rocket scientists of the area’s aerospace firms to accountants, attorneys, and architects, this key sector of the local economy employs 288,000 high skill and high income workers and contributes billions of dollars to the area’s economy each year.

Four of the nation’s top 10 engineering design firms, Jacobs, AECOM, Tetra Tech, and Parsons, have headquarters in L.A. County, as do a number of well known architectural firms. Many of these Southern California-based firms have extensive environmental expertise.

The public desire for a clean environment and healthy workplace has spurred the growth of employment in the environmental consulting industry. As our region continues to invest in its environmental sustainability, this employment sector will undoubtedly grow.

Over 29,000 legal, accounting, and business consulting firms are located within L.A. County ranging from the largest national organizations to individuals in private practice.

Supporting these professional services are five local schools of architecture and nine engineering schools as well as graduate schools that generate a steady flow of MBA’s, CPA’s, and JD’s. In 2007, these schools graduated nearly 17,000 students in the sciences.

Beyond these professional services, a number of support services including staffing firms, property management companies, consultancies and a myriad of outsourcing agencies add nearly
60,000 additional jobs to the County’s overall employment.

Whenever special talent, skills and expertise are required, companies look to L.A. County to find the people they need.
